Grow beautiful flowers without tilling the soil! We will talk about how to grow no-till flowering perennials and annuals that do well in our climate throughout the seasons. Students will learn the best flowers for cutting as well as the basics of harvesting and arranging.

This class will delve deeper into the art and science of herbal remedies. We will discuss approaches to combining herbs and effectively extracting medicinal properties and broaden our discussion and practice in making herbal preparations, including creams and advanced tinctures. This class is intended to follow The Art of Herbal Medicine Making I, though it is not a perquisite. Some prior experience in herbal medicine-making is recommended, though not required.

This six-month course will include medicine-making, plant ID, how to treat acute ailments, use of tonic herbs and food for strengthening vitality, as well as how to harvest local herbs for medicine. You will learn about your own constitutional needs and ways to balance yourself for better health and well-being. This program will include herb walks around the farm and the American River. There will be lots of tasting, smelling, and hands-on experience with the herbs!

Spring brings a multitude of medicinal plants that are our natural allies and provide much of what we need during this season of renewal. We will discuss ways to address seasonal allergies and their underlying causes, healthy ways to do a spring cleanse, and herbs for collecting, eating, and using medicinally to support overall health and vitality. We will collect plants, make medicine, and sample some of the offerings of the season.
