Permaculture uses nature’s design to grow food, fuel, fiber and medicine for our needs while also enhancing the land at the same time. You will get a crash course on how and why permaculture works, learn how to establish a food forest garden that is the best physical manifestation of nature and how to create a social demonstration model in your neighborhood. This class is lecture and hands-on.

This hands-on training will include: Needed materials and approvals, curriculum examples, basics of gardening with children, creating and communicating your vision, funding ideas and much more. Gardens offer beautiful, dynamic settings to integrate every discipline, including science, math, reading, art, environmental studies and nutrition.

Summer is the time to start planning your fall garden. Sacramento has a perfect climate for growing a wide variety of vegetables all year. This class will be a combination of lecture and hands-on gardening.

We will review common garden pests in the Sacramento areas and how to manage them without toxic pesticides. There will be a special focus on beneficial insects. A portion of the class will be outside in the field to find and identify pests and their natural enemies on site.
