Designed for beginning gardeners, the Grow Your Groceries Beginning Home Gardener Weekend Intensive will cover the essential topics to help the new gardener create and maintain a thriving, abundant edible organic garden. Combining indoor presentations with interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to get out and grow food for you and your family. Course topics include garden design and seasonality, building healthy soil, garden preparation and planting, water and irrigation, garden ecology and pest control and growing herbs and perennials.

This course is an opportunity to explore herbal medicine from soil to teacup. Participants will learn the basics of planning, starting, and maintaining an herb garden, plant harvesting and storage, safe and sustainable collection of wild medicinal plants, making home remedies for use throughout the year, and the specific applications for several medicinal plants. This is primarily a hands-on, outdoor course, with lecture woven in.

Grow beautiful flowers without tilling the soil. We will talk about how to grow no-till flowering perennials and annuals that do well in our climate throughout the seasons. Students will learn the best flowers for cutting as well as the basics of harvesting and arranging. This is a lecture and demonstration style class.

We’ve planned an inspiring weekend for you! Network with like-minded teachers, parents, garden designers, community leaders, school garden coordinators, and others involved with helping kids make the connection between food, health and the environment. This year we will aim to discover ways to increase equity and access through school gardens. Learn and discuss ways to grow culturally representative crops, prepare ethnic recipes using garden produce and design systems that use the naturally diverse and unique learning environment of a school garden. Workshops will include curriculum, garden design, cooking, planting plans, art ideas and garden sustainability. Support our mission to have a garden in every school while you attend workshops, participate in hands-on experiences, network, eat delicious food and connect with local organizations.

Workshops, Student-Led Projects, Hands-On Experiences, Information Booths, Delicious Food. Registration will open in December.Would you like to build or enhance a school garden on your campus? This one-day intensive for school garden educators will help you consider the best design for your space that will serve students and teachers while creating a dynamic and healthy ecosystem. Learn the nuts and bolts of irrigation, plant selection, needed materials, signage ideas, curriculum resources and more. Come prepared to collaborate and create.
