Spicy Turnips Greens


2 cups chopped cooked ham
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
2 pounds chopped turnip greens
2 carrots, 1/4” slices
1 onion
2 cups sweet peppers, chopped
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon sugar Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Begin by browning the ham until the juices caramelize , then add EVOO, onion, carrots, peppers.
  2. Season with salt and pepper and cook until the carrots are tender.
  3. Now add the stock to revitalize all of the tasty bits festooned to the pan .
  4. Also add the herbs, sugar and chopped turnip greens.
  5. When the mixture reduces serve over a nice bed of rice.
