Prep Cook

Do you love cooking with farm fresh organic ingredients? We are accepting letters of interest and resumes for an experienced Prep Cook to join our Culinary Arts Team. The starting wage is $19-20 per hour based on experience. Schedule is 30-40 hours a week (Tuesday through Saturday). Saturdays are mandatory. Benefits offered after a 60 day probation period. We plan to hire in late January for a February start date.

  • Interest & skills in cooking education and working with youth
  • Previous cooking & baking experience. Restaurant kitchen experience a plus
  • Knowledge of farming/ gardening/ seasonal produce
  • Ability to follow & duplicate recipes for consistently high-quality meals
  • Ability to maintain a pleasant environment of cleanliness & organization
  • Knowledge of health & safety rules in a kitchen
  • Able to take direction and work in a team
  • Self motivated, quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job
  • Adaptable – will be working alongside a rotating volunteer crew with a range of skill sets
  • California Food Handlers Card & Certification
  • Must be able to work Saturdays
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of standing, twisting, bending, repetitive motion and lifting 10-50 lbs regularly
  • Expected to perform prep list tasks like vegetable chopping, basic cooking duties such as soup and salad preparation, fruit filling for desserts. Assist in assembly and packaging, clean up & inventory management

Youth Educator

The primary responsibilities of a Soil Born Farms Youth Educator is to assist in teaching youth about sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, nutrition, life sciences and health at Soil Born Farms on the American River Ranch. Responsibilities will include assisting in 3-4 hour field trips and summer day camps, working with various educators, supporting interns, occasional school garden support, working collaboratively with the youth education team and using creativity to develop dynamic educational experiences. This job requires an ability to work outside in all weather, do manual labor in the garden, be flexible, creative, self-directed and have a willingness to continue learning new things.

This position is 20-40 hours per week and the wage will range based on experience. This position requires a Tues-Sat. schedule.
