Join Master Food Preservers for a hands-on and demonstration style class to learn how to make holiday gifts from the kitchen. Students will go home with a jar of homemade organic sauerkraut and four containers of gourmet herb cooking salts. There will be a demonstration of water bath canning for preserving pumpkin and preparing black cherry forest jam. You’ll see how to make holiday favorites, such as apple pie and snowman coco in a mason jar and will go home with inspiration to create handcrafted gifts in your kitchen for family and friends.

This class will delve deeper into the art and science of herbal remedies. We will discuss approaches to combining herbs and effectively extracting medicinal properties and broaden our discussion and practice in making herbal preparations, including creams and advanced tinctures. This class is intended to follow The Art of Herbal Medicine Making I, though it is not a perquisite. Some prior experience in herbal medicine-making is recommended, though not required.

Hearty soups brimming with organic farm fresh veggies, grains, beans and organic meat are wonderful meals for the autumn season. Terese’s team tasted signature recipes have been favorites among her cooking students for almost two decades. Come and taste for yourself. You will learn to make: Pasta Fagioli with kale and turkey sausage, creamy cauliflower and leek bisque (so good you won’t believe it’s non-dairy), carrot ginger, Thai style winter squash soup, and split pea with barley and smoked turkey.

Native Plants can be the answer to your gardening dreams! Did you know that native plants can often support 10 to 50 times as many species of native wildlife as non-native? And that native plants have adapted over thousands of years to water availability and climate. Learn about native plants that grow along the American River Parkway and around Folsom Lake. Create a healthy habitat for yourself and critters using plants that benefit wildlife, use less water and little to no pesticides or herbicides. We will discuss and view slides of native plants in this region and then tour the Nursery and Demonstration Gardens.

You will learn how to prep once for healthy meals all week in this new hands-on class series that will simplify your life and be offered every quarter with new seasonal recipes. Bring your take home containers and leave with a bounty of prepped and cooked vegetables, healthy prepared grains, grilled free range chicken seasoned two ways, homemade vinaigrette and sauces, plus a recipe plan for the week. We’ll shop the farmstand for our farm fresh organic produce and have fun cooking in the farm house kitchen. Class includes take home recipes as well as meal prepped ingredients for each person to take home.

Learn about all of the amazing winged friends that visit and live at Soil Born Farms. Kids will explore the Youth Garden and the American River Ranch looking for and learning about birds. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in various fun, educational activities, make a farm fresh snack, meet the farm animals and create something to take home. Suggested ages 3-9. This is a child-focused farm experience. Registration is for children only, one adult may accompany each child.
