Kate Helfrich
Food and Nutrition Educator
Kate is a career educator with a background in nutrition and food studies and a passion for cooking and wise eating. She studied nutrition as an undergraduate at Boston University, through the medical school, and later as a graduate student at Bastyr University, an accredited naturopathic college in Seattle. Kate spends her time exploring cookbooks and recipes and in 2016 was selected to participate in a seminar on “Reading Historic Cookbooks” through the Schlesinger Library in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Having recently completed her Master’s thesis (MA Degree) on recipes in community cookbooks, she was asked to speak as part of the American Bookbinder’s Museum (San Francisco) series on recipes and cookbooks in America. She is currently working on a cookbook project showcasing women in food and agriculture here in Sacramento, and expanding her passion for recipes and good, healthy food by teaching others.
