Fruit Trees for Sale

Fruit trees are a wonderful addition to our urban landscapes because they provide food, shade and an opportunity to connect with the natural world. Soil Born Farms is helping increase our urban fruit tree canopy by opening up our fruit tree nursery to the community to purchase fruit trees for their homes. Trees and tree care information are now available on Wednesdays from 9am to 1pm and on Saturdays at our farmstand from 9am to 1pm. Varieties include apple, apricot, peach, pluot, plum, nectarine, pear, fig persimmon and pomegranate. Tree pricing ranges from $20 to $45.

Growing TogetherWe’ve planned an inspiring day for you! Network with like-minded teachers, parents, garden designers, community leaders, school garden coordinators, and others involved with helping kids make the connection between food, health and the environment.

This year we will aim to discover ways to increase equity and access through school gardens. Learn and discuss ways to grow culturally representative crops, prepare ethnic recipes using garden produce and design systems that use the naturally diverse and unique learning environment of a school garden. Workshops will include curriculum, garden design, cooking, planting plans, art ideas and garden sustainability. Support our mission to have a garden in every school while you attend workshops, participate in hands-on experiences, network, eat delicious food and connect with local organizations. Bring the whole family out to the American River Ranch for activities and classes. Our organic produce is spectacular this season. Featuring organic fruit and vegetables, local honey, jams, baked goods, herbs, special products from local farms and unique and practical gifts for the cook and gardener.

Culinary Arts Fundraiser • 10:30am to 1pm

We are having a fundraiser. Enjoy a simple lunch prepared by the Culinary Arts team: potato, kale and cheddar soup with a salad of beautiful winter lettuces along with whole wheat irish soda bread. Vegan option available. Get your lunch ticket at Phoebe’s Tea & Snack Bar. Served at the Farmhouse Kitchen window from 10:30am until we sell out for an $10 donation. Proceeds benefits our Culinary Arts program.

Join our Culinary Educators and learn how to prepare seasonal produce in simple and delicious ways. Tasting samples, recipes and nutritional information will be available.

Kid’s Activity Tent: Seed tapes.
Li’l Sproutville: Kids of all ages can play and relax under the pine trees. Check out the growing fairy and gnome village, make music on the instrument fence, walk the garden labyrinth and more! Youth must be accompanied by an adult.
Enchanted Garden: Calling all fairies, elves, gnomes and nature spirits, follow the signs, come play and explore. Build fairy and gnome homes, construct a toad abode or make bean babies and experience the magic of the garden.

Soil Born Farms is a sanctuary within reach. I was looking for a space to hold my conflict transformation workshops where people could feel off the grid but without having to drive several hours, Soil Born Farms was the answer. The schoolhouse was the absolute perfect setting to do deep, transformative work. It contained all the elements I was looking for: surrounded by nature, quiet, clean, light-filled, and plenty of space for movement with a group of 20 to 25. The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating and made each experience an easeful and joyful one. Projects & Programs

  1. Harvest Sacramento

    A collaborative effort of area residents, non-profits, community groups and businesses which harvest underutilized fruit and vegetables from backyards and small orchards and donate it to local food assistance agencies.

  2. Grow Your Groceries

    A beginning farmer and gardener training program designed to provide knowledge and hands-on experience to the aspiring urban grower. Our instructors are experienced masters of organic agriculture and horticulture and experts in farm entrepreneurship.

  3. Eat Your Veggies

    Cooking demos and educational projects at the farm stand and in the community.

  4. Growing Together

    Teacher training program supports the Garden in Every School movement, established by Delain Eastin and includes hands-on trainings and an annual symposium.

    Soil Born Farms offers a unique apprenticeship in sustainable agriculture on an urban community farm. Through a combination of hands-on field work, formal classes, field trips and reading discussion, this intensive experiential education aims to train the next generation of organic farmers in the Sacramento area. The farming apprenticeship also provides a valuable foundation for those interested in working to address issues of food security, social justice, and public health. More info >

Integrative Movement & Fascial Release

Wed. Feb. 19 & 26 • 2:30-3:45 pm

NEW CLASS! Myofascial release work focuses on developing functional breathing patterns, core strength, flexibility and coordination using small portable equipment such as foam rollers and balls. These mat-based therapeutic classes are designed to increase functional movement patterns, improve posture, stability, balance, increase lung capacity, and develop core strength. The classes are adapted for all levels of fitness. Preregistration is encouraged to guarantee your spot in class. However, we will accept drop-ins as space permits. Bring a yoga mat to class. Beginning Home Gardener Course: Spring

Thurs. March 12, 19, 26 & April 2 • 5:30 to 8:30pm

Designed for beginning gardeners, the Grow Your Groceries Beginning Home Gardener Course will cover the essential topics to help the new gardener create and maintain a thriving, abundant edible organic garden. Combining indoor presentations with interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities, this course will give you the knowledge and confidence to get out and grow food for you and your family. Topics include: garden design & seasonality, building healthy soil, garden preparation and planting, water and irrigation, garden ecology & pest control, growing herbs and perennials.
